Mission:
The Department of English, Canadian University of Bangladesh (CUB), aspires to be a center of academic excellence, professional expertise, and contextual research in English Studies both nationally and globally. Our Mission is educating citizen leaders through our commitment to the transformative power of liberal arts education. Beginning in the classroom with exposure to new ideas, new ways of understanding, and new ways of knowing, we commit to enable students embark on a journey of intellectual transformation. We aspire to do the following:

  1. To balance the needs of general education - communication, diversity, global perspectives, interdisciplinary studies - with those of the academic knowledge.
  2. To utilize the given appropriate pedagogies - including class size - and environments (classrooms, equipment, resources, and technology) that will lead our student retention and success as well as an increase in the number of majors and minors.
  3. To help students see themselves as professionals, as part of a discipline with skills and abilities valuable in the business, teaching, publishing, or post-graduate work.
  4. To encounter creativity crucial to English studies through theater productions, readings by professional writers, and their own creative and critical production and presentation.
  5. To efficiently develop technical writing knowledge along with sufficient subject-relevant education

 

Vision:
To foster knowledge and a love of literature and of language among students with a coherent curricular framework and well-structured course choices through teaching a variety of literary, pedagogical, theoretical and analytical skills. We aim to be recognized as the standard for liberal arts and sciences education along with providing students with proper employability skills. We are committed to creating and sustaining the conditions that enable the students to experience an unparalleled educational journey that is intellectually, socially, and personally transformative. The English Department at the Canadian University of Bangladesh helps students build knowledge of the content and methods of literary studies, TESOL, English education, and academic, professional, and creative writing. It also provides General Education courses in Communication (CW, CA), Humanities and Fine Arts (HF), Diversity (D), and Ethical Citizenship.
